Dave Chappelle's Block Party

The other day, I checked out Block Party. It's about Dave Chappelle's journey of hosting a concert (aka a Block Party) in Brookyln. I really admire Dave Chappelle's courage to divert from the mainstream and keeping things real. Watching this movie has stirred a lot of thoughts in me about rap, race and good ole American values of cherishing human relationships.

Rap, It's not all about angry vulgar music. Granted Dead Prez was an exception, look at Fugees, Jill Scott, Mos Def, John Legend, Talib Kweli. The music talent and poetic verse they bring are hands down amazing. Race, we live in a country, where there are a certain tendencies to brush over the inequalities and injustices that occur and things seem all peachy. We've focused so much attention on the war and immigration policies recently. We're also polarized with bipartisian politics and diverted our attention from promoting a happier world around us. Look at the movie 'Crash.' Because of our own individuals sterotypes and ignorance of each other, the tragedies which occured surmounted to hurt those around us. Why can't we just get along? That brings us to cherishing human values. With all the hustle and bustle, I believe we have forgotten the magical touch of Midas (yeah a bit unnecessary and off track, but I couldn't help it =P). But seriously, I have this gut feeling that we've become so overwhelmed with our job, studies and personal agendas that we've forgotten about others. Yea, there was something warm about watching the Drumeline college kids kickin it with Dave and Wyclef. Yeah no doubt, why can't we get along? We all mess up sometimes and in the movie Pras Michel from the Fugees said it so eloquently 'To err is human, to forgive is divine'.

Great Economic Humor

At Columbia Business School, a group called Follies made a hilarious video, where a strikingly similar looking business school Dean Glenn Hubbard sings a rendition of Sting's 'I'll be Missing You.' I can smell the bitterness over Benny taking the seat of the Fed Chair from Dean Hubbard.

Apple and Nike at it

Wow. Nike and Apple are teaming up. Interesting. What are they gona do? A chip intergrated shoe that sends data to the nano. PLUS, software that tells you your exercising behavior. DAYEM. I like how two unlikely companies are teaming up to make something potentially cool and enchance our running experience.

First saw it on gizmodo. You should check out the Apple product page. The preview article.

Anish Dhingra

As I was reading through my cousin's blog, I cannot come to terms for the loss of Anish.

In elementary school, he got me hooked to comics and helped me pick out my first comic book purchase. I won't forget the countless Tetris battles with the cousins at my house. Or the traditional video game bouts every Christmas. I remember we spent Xmas at Excalibar in Vegas and Anish/Rej brought their Sega Gensis and we played until dawn of Toejam and Earl.

During middle school, I felt out of loop when Phil and Anish were together doing eXscape, IRC and online gameplay. Whenver I visited Anish, I always appreciated Anish's willingness and kind heart to show me something techie cool and open my eyes.

During high school, we were slowly growing apart, but I do remember the time the Anish tried to help me setup a date with a cute Indian girl from Temple City.

Overall, I always looked up to Anish's entrepreneurial flair and admired his ambituous spirit. He was the cousin with a good heart and uncanny sense of humor. I will truly miss him.
